DO YOU KNOW? Common Cold Can Fight Covid, But How Can This Be Utilized?

by admin

A new study coming from US has found that the common cold infection can compete with Covid and prevent its progression. Researchers led by immunobiologist and laboratory medicine specialist Ellen Foxman of the Yale School of Medicine found that simultaneous exposure to rhinoviruses, which are behind most colds, is enough to prevent an infection by SARS-Cov-2 virus.

How this works is quite straightforward – rhinoviruses jumpstarts the activity of something called interferon-stimulated genes, which are the early-response molecules in the immune system. This explains the runny nose, sneezing, itchy throat and watery eyes that are rapid and common with common cold, but not as fast or common with Covid.

But there is a catch. You should be able to schedule the cold almost simultaneously or just before contracting Covid, or it would be of no use! Or people should be administered interferon, which is available as a drug, which is what this study is calling upon the research field to probe further.

However, they admit that this is a double-edged sword as interferon is basically a cytokine, and can cause more harm than good when given after Covid infection takes hold. But believe it or not, traditional Indian medicine has solutions for even such next generation medical research riddles.

Ayurveda is abundant with herbs that are capable of enhancing interferon production and immunity, but which are still immuno-modulating, which means they are self-regulating or supportive of keeping immunity at optimal levels.

Examples of such herbs include yashtimadhu, ashwagandha, ginger, tulsi etc. Vieroots has several supplements containing these interferon enhancing immuno-modulators including Viemmune, Intuit, & Glucomere.

While modern research is now gung-ho over interferons, Vieroots believes that interferons is only one mechanism by which its research-validated polyherbal supplements work in ensuring optimal immunity and wellness.
